From assessment to a comfortable fit
At the first appointment we check your teeth and bite, discuss the sport or activity, and take a digital scan or impression when appropriate. Your guard is then fabricated to your prescription. At the fitting visit, we check retention and comfort, explain cleaning and storage, and advise when to have the fit reviewed.
Growing teeth, braces and changes in dental work can alter fit. Bring your current guard if you would like us to assess whether it still sits securely.

Practical questions
Before you book
Custom or boil-and-bite?
Custom guards are made from your teeth and checked by a dentist. An over-the-counter guard is an alternative to no guard, but fit and retention vary. We can discuss your sport, comfort and budget.
Can I wear one with braces?
Often, yes. Moving teeth and brackets change the design and may mean a new guard is needed during treatment. Let us know about any orthodontic appliance when booking.
What if a tooth was injured?
A mouthguard appointment is for prevention. For a broken or knocked-out tooth, use our emergency dental care information and call the practice promptly.
